About

 

Chris Baum has been performing in the Portland area for the last 25 years. As a classical pianist, Chris won numerous competitions, including 1st place in Oregon, and special mention in the regional National Music Teachers Association Piano competition. Chris received second place in the Portland Youth Philharmonic Piano Concerto Competition (performing the Mozart Piano Concerto K. 544), and second place in the Marylhurst Piano Concerto competition (performing Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 2). Chris studied classical piano at the Eastman and Manhattan Schools of Music, and Jazz Performance at City College of New York with Ron Carter, Joe Chambers, John Lewis, and Larry Willis. Chris has performed and shared stages with Boz Scaggs, Steve Jordan, Anthony Jackson, Victor Wooten, The Chiffons, The Drifters, and Nu Shooz.

 

Chris was the founder, band leader, arranger, keyboard player, and lead vocalist of the Portland Oregon based group, Soul Vaccination, and maintains the same duties for the Chris Baum Project — both 10 piece bands. Chris acted for 2 years as Musical Director for Hey City Theater’s production of Tony and Tina's Wedding in Portland, Oregon, and Baltimore, Maryland, and worked as band leader on the American Queen Riverboat out of New Orleans. He also performed on the Columbia and Mississippi Queen Riverboats, on Holland America Cruise Lines, and Colour Line Cruises out of Oslo, Norway. Chris was musical director and producer for Ghanaian Master Drummer Obo Addy, and arranged his feature work for the Kronos String Quartet’s CD, Pieces of Africa, Wawshishijay ("Our Beginning”) on Elektra Records.

 

Chris received his Master’s Degree in Conflict Resolution from Portland State University in 2015.

 

Dawn Fitzgerald studied voice with 2005 Latin Grammy Award Nominee Alba Quesada in Los Angeles, Ca., Broadway stars, Eileen and Walter Farrell in Hollywood, Ca., and acting at the Pasadena Actors Workshop under the tutelage of Michael Murphy. Dawn performed at Radio City in Anaheim, Ca, The Icehouse in Pasadena, and the Mackinaw Island Summer Music Festival on Mackinaw Island, Michigan. Over the last 15 years Dawn has appeared at many of the top local and regional venues.  

 

Chris and Dawn play a wide variety of music, including jazz standards, blues, and soul, and specialize in the popular music of Burt Bacharach and Hal David. They have worked together since 2013, and have played many Portland area venues, as well as performing at weddings, parties, and other private functions.
